Website RedesignBrandAscension

Brand Ascension is headed by the dynamic Suzanne Tulien. Her company specializes in working with corporations to solopreneurs on discovering, defining and living their true brand from the inside out. Suzanne says the new site has enabled her to put herself and her business boldly out into the world in a way she wasn’t able to before. I just LOVE hearing that! When I first sat down with Suzanne, her company had done some major internal shifts and re-branding, however, because she didn’t feel proud of her old site and it didn't reflect the new personality of her brand, she found she wasn't pursuing new business was hesitant to send prospective clients to the site.  A new design and better functionality was definitely on order so the company could start speaking more directly to their target audience. The site's navigation needed to communicate new shifts in focus and organize a robust amount of information so it was clear, quick and easy to move through. I streamlined the flow of information and navigation so visitors can now find what they are looking for quickly and the desired categories receive new focus.I provided clear Calls To Action throughout the site to help gather new leads and added a streamlined Testimonial section in the footer to support credibility.brand-ascension-shopping-cart To make it easy for clients to research and purchase her products and packages, I also rebuilt her E-commerce solution so it was easier to navigate and now guides visitors more seamlessly through the buying process.Suzanne and I had a blast working on her new website. It was a thoroughly enjoyable collaboration and she is thrilled with her new site!brand-ascension-homeVisit the site.

NR home 2
Website redesign for Northern Reliability, a progressive Vermont sustainable energy company.
Their old site needed a redesign to speak to their current markets and offerings as well as give them a flexible platform which can grow with and support the visionary goals they have in place.
Their marketing avenues need to speak to widely varied sectors; from technical/engineering to property owner/layman to large-scale investor so the site needed to convey heavy technical and industry insider info and resources with many cross references, while instantly setting them apart from their competition and still appealing to a non-technical market on a more visceral level.
This company is going places and now their website can help propel them there!

Gaylord's SugarhouseBranding, Logo and Collateral design, Website design and development - in developmentScreen Shot 2014-06-18 at 3.47.37 PMThere is more to maple sugaring than most realise. At its most elevated, the amber elixir is as complex and varied as great wine and in Gaylord's hands, it is exceptional. Using his grandfather's arch to boil down the sap he gathers from the carefully chosen Vermont maple trees, he feeds the fire with wood from his land just as his ancestors did. His hand crafted product needed a brand presence worthy of its quality so we drew on his ample history (he's a 7th generation Vermonter) and intense love for the land, its bounty and his careful craftsmanship. His new image is already starting to bring him the quality business he has been seeking. Sweet thing are ahead!Gaylords-1sheet

Web Design & Development

Avic-homepage

After many years of service, a fresh new facelift was long overdue for the AVIC website.
Their completely new design, which I collaborated on with Serena Fox Design Company, incorporates their brand colours with a much stronger statement and crisp style while streamlining functionality on their more-than-60-page site. I designed and built the site in Adobe Muse and published it in Adobe's Business Catalyst. We recently won a AVA Silver Award for this site's design and development.

The Managers Hub BlogBlog Design + Logo/HeaderTMHBanner2
The task for this project was to create a new identity for the debut of a progressive management consulting blog. The client is a corporate managerial coach targeting forward-thinking and socially conscious companies. Her work approach is cutting edge, holistic, and dynamic and she wanted to convey that in the total look of the blog, staying clear of any stuffy "managerial/corporate" image while still communicating a consistency and professionalism. The project needed to attract to an audience that is largely younger, highly creative and intelligent, savvy, socially and environmentally conscious, and progressive in their thinking and approach to their work. The client wanted the design to have be clean and uncluttered, with plenty of white space.I sought to convey these qualities and played with the "hub" theme visually as well as blending some more traditional elements to keep the business end of things strong but using them in more creative and interesting ways, juxtaposed with modern elements and placement. The above image was the final choice.Once the banner design was decided upon, I followed with a clean but distinctive layout design, below, supporting all the client's priorities. To give a window into the creative process on the header design, I've included other top choices below. As you can see, we went through several iterations together, exploring different options and feels. TMHBlogFinalLayout

Helena Wirth CakesBranding - Logo design, collateral, signage, packaging3f1d710166670e33676f2c2f53ea58c6
This was one of my first graphic design projects. The name may look familiar, and that's because it was our family business. Even though this was created back in 1981(pause for shock), I've chosen to include it in my portfolio because it has withstood the test of time and exemplifies one of the most important qualities when designing for a client: timelessness. When my mother took over this bakery, the previous owner had those hideous, standard cards - you know the ones I'm talking about - bright blue raised ink on cheap, garish stock complete with that cheesy wedding cake line art, stock from the printer. And remember, this was back in the 80s, the choices were very limited unless you hired a professional designer. My mother proceeded to furnish a cake-loving public with high-quality creative "art" cakes many years before they would come into vogue. Her style was new and progressive in its market and a far more elegant and personal option for brides and party hosts than anything else available at the time.Freshly out of Art Center, I was feeling pretty cocky and I told my mother, "Mom, I'm going to completely change your image...I'm going to put this business on the map!".  Yeah, well...bravado aside, the business ended up flourishing for over 25 years, in part because the branding accurately portrayed the high-quality, creative and progressively-styled cakes our bakery consistently supplied for nearly three decades.

Started in 1996, this coaching and consulting business had grown significantly and was expanding into new areas. The client wished to update her logo and image to have a more modern and sophisticated feel. She wanted the logo to have a strong sense of movement and a clean, crisp sensibility.Once the new logo was established, we set about redesigning her business card, letterhead and large format information postcard. The client remains in love with the new look and relays that it is getting very positive response from clients. We are currently working on her company's new blog and plans for a website redesign are slated for later in the year.
